Salesforce makes dupe records a thing of the past with Duplicate Alerts and Blocking.

The number one reason for CRM failure is bad data, and duplicate records are a big part of turning your data bad. Duplicate Alerts and Blocking, a new feature found in the Salesforce Spring '15 Release, will help make that a thing of the past! The new addition provides the solution Salesforce users have been  clamoring for for years. Previous solutions existed but they were limited to apps downloaded from the AppExchange, and many of those solutions were expensive, limiting them to only the big enterprises.

Salesforce has released a guide to the new tools, which you can download here, but we've outlined the most important points below.
  • Users now have the ability to configure rules for identifying duplicates (matching rules) and for defining what will happen once duplicate records are identified (duplicate rules).
  • Users can now check new records against existing records in multiple object types with cross-object duplicate checking, as well as use conditional filters that limit when duplicate rules are to be used (for those cases when dupe records are necessary).
  • Politicians have "fuzzy math." Salesforce users now have "fuzzy logic", or algorithms that can catch similarities in certain object fields.

Duplicate Alerts and Blocking is a great addition to the B2B data capabilities already provided by Salesforce's Data.com.There's no denying this will be a powerful tool for businesses of all sizes. Larger enterprises will be able to greatly improve the quality of their data while saving money, sometimes upwards of thousands of dollars a year. Smaller companies will no longer have to spend valuable time purging their databases of dupe records.
